INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARS ENGLISH LANGUAGE OLYMPIADS (ISELO)
English is the language of international communication. English may not be the most spoken language in the world, butEnglish is the language of business. English is the dominant business language and it has become almost a necessity to master the language. ISELO is a platform to hone the four skills viz. Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing and also Understanding of the English language.
Formate of ISSO
The International Scholar's Olympiad consists of two  rounds: the Screening Round and the Scholar's Round. To be eligible for the  Screening Round, students must be enrolled in a UDISE-registered school in  their respective class.To qualify for the Scholar's Round of the International  Scholar's Olympiad, a participant must secure at least 50% marks in the  Screening Round. 
  (a) SCREENING ROUND                                                                    (b)SCHOLARS ROUND
  
  (a)SCREENING ROUND: This round is a qualifying  round in which the child has to score 50% and above in an hour exam to be  considered eligible for the final round and the structure of the paper is as  follows. 
  Classes  1-5 will have 30 MCQ’s each carrying 1mark.
  Classes  6-10 will have 40 MCQ’s each carrying 1mark.
  All  ISO participants would be awarded a certificate of participation subject wise.  Syllabus is as per CBSE, ICSE pattern for all classes. Refer to the relevant  section of the website for details.
  (b) SCHOLARS ROUND: This  round is the final round of one and half hours. The structure of the paper is  as follows. 
  Classes  1-5 will have 35 MCQ’s carrying 1 mark each.
  Classes  6-10 will have 50 MCQ’s carrying 1 mark each.
In  this round the ISO participants will be awarded 3 types of rank.
  (i)  National rank (ii) Zonal rank (iii) School rank
Syllabus & qualifying criteria:
In accordance with the NEP (2020), NCF (2023), and the guidelines of  NCERT, CBSE, as well as National and various State Boards, any modifications or  reductions in the syllabus for the convenience of schools and students will be  reflected in the actual question papers.
  GRADE-1
  Jumbled Letters, Words :   Their Meanings and Opposites, Identify the Word From the Picture, Making  a  Word, Word Power, Feminine and Masculine, One and Many, Word Pairs, Odd  One Out, Animals : Their Babies, Sounds and Groups, Nouns,  Pronouns,  Verbs, Conjunctions, Articles, Adverbs, Prepositions, Adjectives, Basic tenses,  Punctuation, Comprehension (Prose and Poetry), Picture Composition, Spoken and  Written Expression.
  GRADE-2
  Collocations, Synonyms, Antonyms,  Identify the word from the Picture, Words Related to Animals, Phrases, Idioms,  Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs, Adverbs, Adjectives, Articles, Prepositions,  Conjunctions, Contractions, Word order, Punctuation, Simple tenses.
  Search for and retrieve  information from various text types like stories, short dialogues, etc. Acquire  broad understanding of and look for specific information in short texts like  messages, invitations, etc.
  Ability to understand  situation-based variations in functions like thanking, greeting, asking for  permission, introducing (oneself), etc.
  GRADE-3
  Word Power : Homophones,  Collocations, Words related to animals, Household things, Clothes, Basic  emotions, Food, Animals and Pets, etc., Synonyms and Antonyms, Gender, Number,  Proverbs, Idioms, One Word, Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs, Adverbs, Adjectives,  Articles, Prepositions, Simple Tenses, Conjunctions and Punctuation, Basic  Questions, Question tags, Jumbled words, etc. 
  Search for and retrieve  information from various text types like Stories, Anecdotes, etc., Understand  information through pictures, Time-table format, etc., acquire broad  understanding of and look for specific information in short texts like  messages, Invitations, etc
  Ability to understand  situation-based variations in functions like apology, greeting, introduction,  request, etc.
  GRADE-4
  Collocations, Gender,  Singular-Plural, One word Substitution, Synonyms, Antonyms, Nouns, Pronouns,  Verbs, Adverbs, Adjectives, Contractions, Articles, Prepositions, Conjunctions,  Tenses, Punctuations and Jumbled words, Basic Questions, Question Tags,  Proverbs, Idioms, etc.
  Search for and retrieve  information from various text types like Stories, Anecdotes, etc., Understand  information through pictures, Time-table format, etc., acquire broad  understanding of and look for specific information in short texts like  messages, Invitations, etc.
  Ability to understand  situation-based variations in functions like apology, greeting, introduction,  request, etc.
  GRADE-5
  Spellings, Collocations, Idioms,  Homonyms and homophones, Synonyms, Antonyms, Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs and Phrasal  Verbs, Adverbs, Adjectives, Articles, Prepositions, Conjunctions, Punctuation,  Tenses, Active-Passive Voice and Reported Speech, etc.
  Search for and retrieve  information from various text types like News headlines, Messages, Letters,   etc., Understand information given in News reports, Time-tables,  Messages, etc., Acquire broad understanding of and look for specific  information in short texts like messages, menu card dialogues, etc.
  Ability to understand  situation-based variations in functions like Requests, Refusals, Apologies,  etc.
  GRADE-6
  Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs, Adverbs,  Adjectives, Articles, Conjunctions, Prepositions, Punctuation and Jumbled  Words, Tenses, Voices, Narration, etc., Collocations, Phrasal verbs, Idioms,  Synonyms, Antonyms.
  Search for and retrieve  information from various text types like News headlines, Brochures, Formal and  Informal letters, Itinerary, etc., Acquire broad understanding of and look for  specific information in Short narratives, Time-tables, News stories, Diary  entry, Poster Making, Messages, etc.
  Ability to understand  situation-based variations in functions like agreement and disagreement, 
  GRADE-7
  Collocations and Words related to  Travel, Locations, Activities, Homonyms and Homophones, etc., Synonyms,  Antonyms, Analogies and Spellings, One word, Phrasal verbs and Idioms, Modals,  Word order, Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs, Adverbs, Adjectives, Articles,  Prepositions, Conjunctions, Punctuation, Tenses, Voices and Narration, etc. 
  Search for and retrieve  information from various text types like News stories, Brochures, Formal and  informal letters and advertisements. Understand information given in News  reports, Brochures, Itinerary, etc., acquire broad understanding of and look for  specific information in short narratives, Biographies, Notices and Messages,  etc.
  Ability to understand  situation-based variations in functions like requesting and refusing, Apologies  and stating of preferences and expression of intent, etc.
  GRADE-8
  Synonyms, Antonyms, Analogies, Collocations,  Phrasal Verbs, Idioms or Proverbs, Homonyms and Homophones, One word, Nouns,  Pronouns, Verbs, Adverbs, Adjectives, Articles, Prepositions, Prepositional  Phrases, Participle Phrases, Conjunctions, Determiners, Jumbled Words and  Punctuations, Tenses, Voices and Narrations, Question Tags, etc. Words related  to leisure, Household items/issues, Social causes, Outdoor locations and  activities, etc.
  Search for and retrieve  information from various text types like News reports, Blurb, Dictionaries,  etc., Understand information presented in instruction manual format, Message  format and others. Acquire broad understanding of and look for specific  information in longer texts like Editorials, Essays, etc.
  Ability to understand situation-based  variations in functions like Requesting, Giving information, Expressing  surprise, Pronunciation, etc
  GRADE-9

  GRADE-10
  Synonyms, Antonyms, Analogies, One  Word, Word order, Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs, Adverbs, Adjectives, Articles,  Prepositions, Conjunctions, Punctuations, Voices, Narration, Concord, Question  forms, Tenses, Conditionals, Modals, Collocations, Phrasal verbs, Idioms,  Homonyms and homophones, Words related to weather, Countries, Language and  people, Global problems, etc.
  Search for and retrieve  information from various text types like Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, etc.,  Understand information presented in instruction manual format, Message format  and others, Acquire broad understanding of and look for specific information in  longer texts like editorials, essays, etc., 
  Make inferences from advanced  texts. Ability to understand situation-based variations in functions like  Giving/Accepting compliments, Agreeing, Disagreeing, Requesting, Seeking  information, Pronunciation, etc.
  From Level-1 to Level-2:- All those who obtains 50% of  the total marks.

  In case 11 or more students get the same  rank, in lieu of cash award, each winner will be awardedscholarship  of gifts worth Rs.1,000/- each + a medal ( in the applicable category) and  a Certificate of outstanding performance.
  Each winner will  receive only one award per exam, with entitlement to the highest-level award  they qualify for. For example, the top three national rank holders will receive  awards based on their national ranks, while their zonal-level awards will be  passed on to the next eligible rank holder. Similarly, if a zonal award winner  also qualifies for a class topper award, the class topper award will be granted  to the next eligible rank holder.

  Each winner will  receive only one award per exam, with entitlement to the highest-level award  they qualify for. For example, the top three national rank holders will receive  awards based on their national ranks, while their zonal-level awards will be  passed on to the next eligible rank holder. Similarly, if a zonal award winner  also qualifies for a class topper award, the class topper award will be granted  to the next eligible rank holder.
  DISTRICT LEVEL
  Although district ranks are not officially designated,  every district topper will be honored with a cash prize*, a Medal of  Distinction**, and a Certificate of Excellence.
  *The cash prize at  the zonal level will be subject to sponsorship availability.
  **To receive a  medal, a candidate must score at least 80% in the scholar’s round.
