ABOUT INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARS SCIENCE OLYMPIADS (ISSMO)
Science develops our reasoning, helps us to have analytical thinking, quickens our mind, generates practicality and also its use can be applied in the day to day life.. With the knowledge of science, one can learn to think logically and solve a problem. It helps in instilling survival skills. The contest aims to give a platform to the students to enhance their understanding of the world around them. By combining events from all disciplines, ISSO encourages a wide cross-section of students to get involved. Emphasis is placed on active, hands-on group participation. Through ISSO, students, teachers, parents, principals and business leaders bond together and work toward a shared goal.
Format of ISSO
The International Scholar's Olympiad consists of two rounds: the Screening Round and the Scholar's Round. To be eligible for the Screening Round, students must be enrolled in a UDISE-registered school in their respective class.To qualify for the Scholar's Round of the International Scholar's Olympiad, a participant must secure at least 50% marks in the Screening Round.
(a) SCREENING ROUND (b)SCHOLARS ROUND
(a)SCREENING ROUND: This round is a qualifying round in which the child has to score 50% and above in an hour exam to be considered eligible for the final round and the structure of the paper is as follows.
Classes 1-5 will have 30 MCQ’s each carrying 1mark.
Classes 6-10 will have 40 MCQ’s each carrying 1mark.
All ISO participants would be awarded a certificate of participation subject wise. Syllabus is as per CBSE, ICSE pattern for all classes. Refer to the relevant section of the website for details.
(b) SCHOLARS ROUND: This round is the final round of one and half hours. The structure of the paper is as follows.
Classes 1-5 will have 35 MCQ’s carrying 1 mark each.
Classes 6-10 will have 50 MCQ’s carrying 1 mark each.
In this round the ISO participants will be awarded 3 types of rank.
(i) National rank (ii) Zonal rank (iii) School rank
Syllabus & qualifying criteria:
In accordance with the NEP (2020), NCF (2023), and the guidelines of NCERT, CBSE, as well as National and various State Boards, any modifications or reductions in the syllabus for the convenience of schools and students will be reflected in the actual question papers.
GRADE-1
Living and Non-living Things, Plants, Animals, Human Beings and Their Needs, Good Habits and Safety Rules, Air and Water, Weather and the Sky.
GRADE-2
Plants, Animals, Human Body, Food, Housing and Clothing, Family and Festivals, Good Habits and Safety Rules, Transport and Communication, Air, Water and Rocks, Earth and Universe.
GRADE-3
Plants and Animals, Birds, Food, Housing, Clothing and Occupation, Transport, Communication and Safety Rules, Human Body, Earth and Universe, Matter and Materials, Light, Sound and Force, Our Environment.
GRADE-4
Plants, Animals, Food and Digestion, Human Needs, Matter and Materials, Force, Work and Energy, Our Environment, Earth and Universe.
GRADE-5
Animals, Human Body and Health, Plants, Natural Resources and Indian Heritage, Pollution and Calamities, Earth and Universe, Matter and Materials, Force and Energy.
GRADE-6
Motion and Measurement of Distances, Light, Shadows and Reflections, Electricity and Circuits, Fun with Magnets, Air Around Us, Sorting Materials into Groups, Separation of Substances, The World of Living (Characteristics of Living Beings, Parts of Plants, Body Movements in Animals and Adaptation), Components of Food.
GRADE-7
Heat, Motion and Time, Electric Current and its Effects, Light, Acids, Bases and Salts, Physical and Chemical Changes, Nutrition in Plants and Animals, Respiration in Organisms, Transportation in Plants and Animals, Reproduction in Plants, Natural Resources and Their Conservation (Forests: Our Lifeline, Wastewater Story).
GRADE-8
Crop Production and Management, Microorganisms, Coal and Petroleum, Combustion and Flame, Conservation of Plants and Animals, Reproduction and Endocrine System, Force and Pressure, Friction, Sound, Chemical Effects of Electric Current, Some Natural Phenomena, Light.
GRADE-9
Motion, Force and Laws of Motion, Gravitation, Work and Energy, Sound, Matter in Our Surroundings, Is Matter Around Us Pure, Atoms and Molecules, Structure of Atom, Cell-The Fundamental Unit of Life, Tissues, Natural Resources, and Improvement in Food Resources.
GRADE-10
Chemical Reactions and Equations, Acids, Bases and Salts, Metals and Non-metals, Carbon and Its Compounds, Life Processes, Control and Coordination, Reproduction in Organisms, Heredity, Light-Reflection and Refraction, Human Eye and Colorful World, Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Electric Current, Our Environment and Its Management.
QUALIFYING CRITERIA: TO BE ADDED
From Level-1 to Level-2:- All those who obtains 50% of the total marks.

Awards & Recognition:
The winners of Hope International Scholar’s Olympiad, taking place during the current academic year, will receive the following awards and recognitions.
The Hope Foundation & its subsidiaries have allocated over 1.6 crore towards awards, recognition, facilitation, media coverage, and the promotion of students, teachers, principals, and schools with the help of their Sponsors.

* If two or more students attain the same national rank after applying our tie-breaking criteria, the cash award for the respective category will be distributed as follows:
For up to 10 students getting the same rank, award amount will be distributed equally. In addition, each winner will be awarded a medal (in the applicable category) and a Certificate of outstanding performance.
In case 11 or more students get the same rank, in lieu of cash award, each winner will be awardedscholarship of gifts worth Rs.1,000/- each + a medal ( in the applicable category) and a Certificate of outstanding performance.
Each winner will receive only one award per exam, with entitlement to the highest-level award they qualify for. For example, the top three national rank holders will receive awards based on their national ranks, while their zonal-level awards will be passed on to the next eligible rank holder. Similarly, if a zonal award winner also qualifies for a class topper award, the class topper award will be granted to the next eligible rank holder.

Although district ranks are not officially designated, every district topper will be honored with a cash prize*, a Medal of Distinction**, and a Certificate of Excellence.
*The cash prize at the zonal level will be subject to sponsorship availability.
**To receive a medal, a candidate must score at least 80% in the scholar’s round.
